Kagezi Seeds was born from a recognition that Zambia's smallholder farmers — who produce the majority of the country's food — were being underserved by the mainstream seed industry, which focused almost entirely on hybrid maize despite worsening drought cycles.
Our founders saw an urgent imperative to champion climate-resilient, underutilized crops: drought-resistant cowpeas, sorghum, pearl millet, and soybeans. Structured as a social enterprise, every commercial and operational decision we make is evaluated against its direct impact on smallholder prosperity and national food security.

We directly link women and youth empowerment to climate adaptation and rural economic growth. Providing certified drought-tolerant seeds, agronomy training, and guaranteed floor price buy-backs transforms vulnerable rural households into thriving agribusinesses.
Since 2021, we have built partnerships with CIMMYT, ZARI, USAID, Caritas Czech Republic, and World Bank programmes—bridging scientific innovation with rural community empowerment and pioneering Zambia's first closed-loop seed-to-table value chain.
