Kagezi Seeds changes this dynamic through our unique "seed-to-table" model. By supplying drought-tolerant seed varieties, providing extension training, offering a guaranteed crop buy-back, and adding value locally through Kagezi Foods, we convert climate-vulnerable farms into secure, profitable partners.

1. Breeding & Supplying Resilient Seeds

Our model starts in the soil of our Chisamba seed farms. Mainstream seed companies focus heavily on hybrid maize, a water-intensive crop that struggles under Zambia's increasingly frequent dry spells. We champion climate-hardy alternative crops.

We multiply certified seeds for cowpeas, sorghum, and soybeans. These crops are genetically resilient, utilizing water efficiently to survive dry periods and enrich the soil naturally by fixing atmospheric nitrogen.

Drought-Resistant Pipelines: Varietal development tested in collaboration with ZARI and CIMMYT.

2. Hands-on Training & Extension Services

Seeds alone do not guarantee a successful crop. To bridge the knowledge gap, Kagezi Seeds delivers seed inputs directly to our network of smallholders alongside hands-on, season-long agronomic support.

Our team of extension officers and agronomists works directly in communities, providing training on proper spacing, conservation tillage, pest management, and post-harvest handling. We place specific emphasis on reaching women and youth, who represent the majority of farm labor but often lack access to training.

3. Eliminating Price Volatility with Guaranteed Markets

The harvest season is often a time of anxiety for smallholders. Price manipulation by speculative buyers and regional oversupplies can force farmers to sell crops below their production cost.

Under our contract outgrower model, Kagezi Seeds provides a guaranteed market. Before seeds are even planted, we commit to purchasing the mature crop from our farmers at pre-agreed, fair-trade floor prices. This eliminates market uncertainty, secures cash flows, and empowers families to plan for the future.

4. Value-Added Processing & Community Nutrition

What happens to the crops we buy back? Through our dedicated sister company, Kagezi Foods, we process raw harvests into nutritious, consumer-ready products.

At our factory in Chongwe Silverest, cowpeas, sorghum, and soybeans are cleaned, processed, and transformed into value-added products like our Nutrava Munkoyo health drink, organic cereal blends, and high-protein porridge mixtures. These products are distributed locally, providing affordable, healthy nutrition back to the communities that grew them.
